Martifer Solar has signed an agreement with Consorcio Integrador Sonora80M to build a 20MW photovoltaic project in Hermosillo, in the state of Sonora, in northern Mexico. The company, which has been in the Mexican market since 2011, will also be in charge of operation and maintenance services.

"After extensive analysis of the different proposals, provided by the main companies within the sector, we chose Martifer Solar, amongst other reasons, for the technical quality put forward, its Smartracker® tracking technology, and for its global experience and track-record," said Cesar Martín, of Consorcio Integrador Sonora80M.

The project, which will be the first large-scale solar project installed in the country, will make use of solar trackers patented by Martifer Solar, which will optimise the installation's yield by around 30 percent, and maximise the power distributed to the grid.

This, along with high number of hours of sunshine means that feed in tariffs are not necessary to ensure the project's  competitiveness, compared to other non-sustainable energy sources.

"The agreement signed with Consorcio Integrador Sonora80M proves the success of Martifer Solar's international expansion strategy and boosts the company's commitment to the photovoltaic sector in Latin America and in the Mexican market in particular," said Alberto Rabanal, Regional Manager for Latin America and Board Member of Martifer Solar.

Consorcio Integrador Sonora80M also signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with several municipalities in the region, thus ensuring the sale of power produced by the plant for the next 25 years.
